Welcome to TotalPicture Radio. I'd like to speak today to those of you engaged in talent acquisition, HR, sourcing, recruiting, employer branding, promoting talent communities and staffing.

In other words, if your job involves finding, engaging and hiring highly qualified candidates to fill your open positions, and developing talent pipelines, I want to share some rather mind-blowing statistics, and tell you about the relaunch of JobsinPods - "The podcast where real employers advertise their jobs and tell you how to get them."

So Peter, how do you think HR and recruiting is changing?

Well, I'm glad you asked! A few days ago, someone posted an article on LinkedIn with the title "Recruitment Industry Will Die in 2018!" Suggesting that machine learning, big data, and propensity algorithms will kill off recruiters. Really? How many years have we heard that job boards are dead? And yet, the CareerXroads annual source of hire survey, will tell you job boards consistently represent about 30% of the hiring pie. That's a lot!

For years, many of us have attended the HR Technology conference and been wowed with new tech that promises to make the candidate experience better, save us time, present us better qualified candidates, tell us who is at risk of leaving, fix the ATS, get auto-respond email scripts to actually work, provide real systems integration so that all of our databases reliably talk to each other, oh and magically create a mobile apply platform. And yet, most of this stuff just presents HR and recruiters with more work - more reports - all day training sessions when there's 25 req's that need to be filled. Most of the successful recruiters I know have mastered boolean search strings, still rely and Excel spreadsheets to keep track of candidates, and consider the telephone their number one technology tool.
