HIREconf Debrief with Jeremy Roberts

A One-Day Conference Focused on the Skills Talent Acquisition Professionals Need to Know

Published on February 28 2017

Jeremy Roberts, VP and CMO Hiring Solved TotalPicture Radio interview with Peter ClaytonJeremy Roberts

Jeremy Roberts, SPHR, is Vice President, Customer Experience at HiringSolved. He's a frequent speaker at many industry events including SourceCon, ERE, and TalentNet. -- Not surprising since he's the previous Editor of SourceCon. Jeremy spent over a decade working as a recruiter, sourcer, and sourcing manager.

If you're attending SourceCon this spring in Anaheim, California, be sure to catch Jeremy's presentation on Wednesday, March 15th: How to Ensure You Survive the Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence Disruption. And yes, machine learning certainly qualifies in 2017, for buzzword bingo.

Welcome to a Talent Acquisition Channel Podcast on TotalPicture Radio. I'm your host Peter Clayton.

A few weeks ago, I was fortunate to meet Jeremy at the HIREconf in New York City, an event organized by HiringSolved. Jeremy was the conference chair. He and his team assembled a terrific lineup of speakers, which we'll get into in this conversation. But first, I need to give a shout-out to Ryan Leary and the entire RecruitingDaily team for including me in the media coverage of the conference. Very much appreciated!

Peter Weddle, CEO TAtech - TotalPicture Radio interview with Peter ClaytonPeter Weddle

Peter Weddle's career has been shaped by the two most important waves of change in the world's workplace over the past fifty years: the War for the Best Talent and the changing definition and dynamics of work itself.

Whether it's been via research, writing, publishing or public speaking, his focus has always been on helping both employers and working men and women better understand the challenges and opportunities these two waves have unleashed.

Quoting from his LinkedIn profile, "We've come a considerable distance in our understanding of the modern world of work, but much remains to be uncovered and distilled. The quest for that emergent knowledge is what animates my day."

Welcome to a Talent Acquisition Channel podcast on TotalPicture Radio. I'm your host Peter Clayton.

I'm happy to welcome back to the show Peter Weddle, whom I first met in 2005 when this podcast began, at the first industry conference I attended, Recruiting Trends, at the Jacob Javits Center in New York.

Peter is CEO of TAtech: The Association for Talent Acquisition Solutions. The trade association for companies and organizations that design, develop and deliver technology-based recruiting products and services. Collectively, its Members power or operate over 70,000 sites worldwide and offer solutions for every facet of talent acquisition. Today, Peter Weddle joins me with an association update, and insight regarding TAtech and its global conference footprint.

Jonathan Duarte - The Conversational Job Search

Jonathan Duarte, co-founder GoBe-the Job Bot - TotalPicture Radio interview with Peter ClaytonJonathan Duarte

"Getting accurate job search results wasn't due to some algorithm, or artificial intelligence (AI) or machine learning, it was through a " conversational job search" with multiple back-and-forth, short questions and answers." Jonathan Duarte, Co-Founder, GoBe- The Job Bot

According to Jonathan Duarte's January 19, 2016, article posted on Linkedin: "In a short 30 day period, while still in beta testing, GoBe racked up some incredible statistics; GoBe, managed over 100,000 messages with job seekers in over 106 countries, and almost all of the traffic and users came from social media shares, likes and comments..."

"When we set out to help job seekers find jobs, we knew that the current job search process wasn't working for a lot of job seekers. As a 20 year veteran of the Internet recruiting technology market, and founder of one of the first Internet job boards, I knew there were ways to improve the process, but didn't know what would work best."

Welcome to a Talent Acquisition Channel podcast on TotalPicture Radio. I'm your host Peter Clayton. Joining me today is Jonathan Duarte, a founder and CEO with 20 years of experience in the Internet Recruiting market. His new company, GoHire was founded by Jonathan and Mike Lam, former Director of Business Intelligence, entrepreneur and investor.

JobsinPods: Embracing a Mobile-First Strategy for Talent Acquisition

Published on December 08 2016
Peter Clayton, Chief Jobcaster, JobsinPods -TotalPicture interviewPeter Clayton

Peter Clayton Chief Jobcaster, JobsinPods, Talks Mobile Recruiting, Job Advertising, Adaptive Design, Social Recruiting, Employment Branding and Talent Attraction.

Welcome to TotalPicture Radio. I'd like to speak today to those of you engaged in talent acquisition, HR, sourcing, recruiting, employer branding, promoting talent communities and staffing.

In other words, if your job involves finding, engaging and hiring highly qualified candidates to fill your open positions, and developing talent pipelines, I want to share some rather mind-blowing statistics, and tell you about the relaunch of JobsinPods - "The podcast where real employers advertise their jobs and tell you how to get them."

Hi this is Peter Clayton with an unusual Talent Acquisition Channel Podcast on TotalPicture Radio. For the first time... I'm interviewing myself! In addition to this podcast, I'm Chief Jobcaster at JobsinPods.com, part of the TotalPicture Media family. Let's get started...

So Peter, how do you think HR and recruiting is changing?

Well, I'm glad you asked! A few days ago, someone posted an article on LinkedIn with the title "Recruitment Industry Will Die in 2018!" Suggesting that machine learning, big data, and propensity algorithms will kill off recruiters. Really? How many years have we heard that job boards are dead? And yet, the CareerXroads annual source of hire survey, will tell you job boards consistently represent about 30% of the hiring pie. That's a lot!

For years, many of us have attended the HR Technology conference and been wowed with new tech that promises to make the candidate experience better, save us time, present us better qualified candidates, tell us who is at risk of leaving, fix the ATS, get auto-respond email scripts to actually work, provide real systems integration so that all of our databases reliably talk to each other, oh and magically create a mobile apply platform. And yet, most of this stuff just presents HR and recruiters with more work - more reports - all day training sessions when there's 25 req's that need to be filled. Most of the successful recruiters I know have mastered boolean search strings, still rely and Excel spreadsheets to keep track of candidates, and consider the telephone their number one technology tool. Am I right?
