Reporting from the IACPR Global Conference in Philadelphia

"The corporate professional recruiter job is morphing into a true project management role doing so much more with so much less,” and sadly, the market for corporate in-house recruiting professionals continues to be soft and honestly... I don’t expect it to come back to where it was -- ever. We have frankly figured out we don’t need all those recruiters in-house." Jeremy Eskenazi.

Welcome to a special Talent Acquisition Channel Podcast on TotalPicture Radio with Peter Clayton reporting. “Forging new talent paths 2010 and beyond” is the theme of this year’s International Association for Corporate and Professional Recruitment -- IACPR -- Global Conference. Joining me today to kick-off the conference is Jeremy Eskenazi, Managing Principal of Riviera Advisors – a frequent contributor to TotalPicture Radio, and sponsor of our coverage at the IACPR Global Conference. Prior to founding Riviera Advisors in 2001, Jeremy was VP of Talent Acquisition for Idealab. His background includes senior roles in staffing and recruiting with Amazon.com, Universal Studios and Universal Music Group. Jeremy has served in many volunteer leadership roles for the IACPR. He frequently speaks at HR industry functions, and is active with many HR associations. I spoke with Jeremy by phone just before the start of the IACPR Conference – being held at the Rittenhouse Hotel in Philadelphia.

Questions Peter Clayton asks Jeremy Eskenazi

  • We last spoke at ERE Spring in San Diego this year – where the mood was “cautiously optimistic.” What has transpired over the last 6 months – especially in the areas of recruiting and HR? We keep hearing about a “jobless recovery.”
  • Jeremy, tell me about The International Association of Corporate and Professional Recruiters -- IACPR, what is your involvement with the organization, and can you tell us about the IACPR and its origins?
  • You’re moderating a panel discussion here at IACPR titled “Real World Challenges of Global Recruitment – why is this topic part of the agenda here in Philadelphia?
  • Who is on your panel, and why did IACPR ask you to facilitate this discussion?
  • What are some of the challenges of global recruiting in 2010…what are some off the trends you are finding?
  • Are there differences for recruiting executives in the various regions of the world compared to others?
  • 10 years ago, expat assignments were considered a real career boost, and highly desirable. Is that still true today?
  • I understand that there is a consistent dialogue within the Talent Acquisition community about building global recruiting capabilities. Using local or global resources to execute the recruitment of executives…can you discuss your philosophy on this?
  • What about the use of search vendors and third-party search firms/agencies? How do organizations leverage these resources in a global environment?
  • With 2011 just around the corner what trends in corporate talent acquisition are you seeing from your travels and your interactions with Rivera Advisors’ clients?
