Dumbfind Could be a Smart Move for Your Job Search

Chris Seline
Chris Seline
"Dumbfind is an alternative to traditional search engines. We asked ourselves: why use just keywords that can return 4.53 gazillion results comprised of 3.14158 gazillion topics? So we came up with the two-box search method that produces search results you can't find anywhere else." - Chris Seline

I met Chris Seline, CEO and founder of Dumbfind at the Search Engine Strategies conference in New York. Chris contacted me regarding a recent cover story article in Newsweek, titled The New Wisdom of the Web - which highlights a couple of recent mainstream media darlings - MySpace - purchased by Rupert Murdock for a cool $580 million - and Flickr - bought by Yahoo for a reported $38 million. According to Chris, the Newsweek article is only telling - perhaps -“ half the story. He named his company Dumbfind. I had to talk to this guy. Are "two bars are better than one"?

Regarding tags and tag technology, the Dumbfind website offers some useful explanations. Answering the question what is a tag?
A tag is a term that describes a url/document/website/page/etc.
Examples: search engine, biotechnology, humor, faq.
You could say a tag is to a webpage what an adjective is to a noun. Actually, some tags really are adjectives, but others are nouns or even verbs.

Asking when you should use tags, they offer this response:
Any time you want, you can use tags. But you don't always have to decide on a tag first; we can do it for you: that's where related tag clusters come in. If you need help, we'll suggest tags you can click on to refine your search. Dumbfind is your guide to refining and bettering your search engine experience. When you're stuck, and don't know where to go, we're here to help.

In his article about Dumbfind's "Adsonomy" offering, Jason Lee Miller, of Web Pro News, wrote:
"Adsonomy lets a company control up to 10 topics relevant to their product. Their ad is displayed when someone does a search relevant to their tags. Dumbfind has technology to automatically assign tags to urls in its index. After a search, these tags are automatically pulled up with the results and displayed on the left hand side. In addition to helping people refine their queries, Dumbfind sends the tags to their adservers to be analyzed and determine the most relevant ads to serve."
