Interview with a Leader in Corporate Recruiting: Michael Homula.![]() Michael Homula Michael Homula is the 2006 ERE Excellence Award Winner for Most Innovative Employee Referral Program, and the 2005 ERE Excellence Award Winner for Most Innovative Recruiting Process or Structure. Quicken Loans understands the importance of recruiting the best talent. Michael is a direct-line report to the CEO of the company. In his own words: “I have a passion for talent acquisition and recruiting strategy and execution. I am the Director of Talent Acquisition for Quicken Loans, #12 on Fortune Magazines 100 Best Places to Work. Most recently, I was the talent acquisition leader for FirstMerit Bank, a $10.5 billion full service bank headquartered in NE Ohio. I have over 11 years in the staffing and TPR search industry as well as corporate human resources with an emphasis on talent acquisition/recruiting.” We spoke with Michael at the recent ER Expo 2006 in San Diego.
"In 2001 I undertook the challenge of re-inventing the recruiting strategy, culture and structure of FirstMerit Bank's recruiting team. The goals were to reduce expenses related to recruiting, create the ultimate candidate experience through a candidates centric reruiting philosophy, improve our candidate relationship management skill, reduce search fee's, improve the quality of hire, reduce time to fill, improve recruiter efficiency and identify talent acquisition metrics that would directly link to performance indicators and reveal the ROI for the team. All of these goals were achieved in less than 3 years making talent acquisition a valued business leader in the organization." About Michael's job "I am a proven thought leader, author and public speaker in the recruiting industry and have led several high performing recruiting teams in both TPR and Corporate. I have consulted with and spoken to many large and mid-sized corporations on how to optimize their recruiting strategy and get world class results. Most recently I built and led a world class Talent Acquisition Team at FirstMerit Bank. To accomplish this I built an in house TPR model designed to identify and recruit passive talent from competitors and like industries. I engaged in teaching and coaching direct sourcing and consultative behaviors while building metrics that tie to corporate performance. My leadership style is that of a servant leader. As a Christian I know that the talents and gifts I have were given to me by God and my sole purpose in this position and in this life is to use these talents and gifts to help others and bring Him glory. I view my role as a recruiting industry thought leader, consultant and leader of world class Talent Acquisition teams as that of a servant to the people I lead and coach." source: ERE Forum.
