Sometimes, if you have enough staying power and passion, the stars align, the script is brilliant, the team is inspired, the cash register rings, and your life changes.
Jory Weitz
"You know, like nunchuck skills, bowhunting skills, computer hacking skills... Girls only want boyfriends who have great skills." - Napoleon Dynamite.
Jory Weitz was the executive producer of Napoleon Dynamite, a huge hit at the 2004 Sundance Film Festival and winner of the Best Feature award at the U.S. Comedy Arts Festival and Best Film at the 2005 MTV Film Awards. Napoleon has since become one of the most successful independent films of all times, and in doing so, opened doors and opportunities for a savvy, smart Hollywood casting director turned producer.
Prior to his successful producing debut with Napoleon, Weitz has had a distinguished career as a casting director, working with notable film directors such as Francis Ford Coppola, Tim Burton, Stephen Norrington, Ron Shelton, Kevin Costner, and Stephen Frears. Weitz is currently producing a film titled Sleepless Beauty along with Gil Adler (producer of Constantine and the upcoming Superman Returns) and director Des McAnuff (Rocky & Bullwinkle), written by Larry Wilson (Beetlejuice and Addams Family). Weitz is also producing the fantasy/adventure film The Other Side with Antonio Banderas and Diane Sillan Isaacs' (Killing Pablo) company, Green Moon Productions.
Having recently executive produced (for THINKFilm) the critically acclaimed documentary, F*CK, about a word and its multitude of meanings (featuring interviews with Pat Boone, Drew Carey, Billy Connolly, Sam Donaldson, Janeane Garofolo, Ice-T, Ron Jeremy, Bill Maher, Michael Medved, Alanis Morrisette, Kevin Smith and the late Hunter S. Thompson, among others), Weitz has taken some time out to work again with Napoleon’s director in casting Jack Black in Paramount’s upcoming comedy, Nacho Libre to open this June.
Weitz is allergic to cats, lives for the New York theater, resides in LA (but don’t tell anyone) and gets no sleep due to his newborn son and bad, late night cable movies.
