In 2000, Pitney Bowes CEO Michael Critelli made the decision to change the fundamental direction of the organization. "Back Where We Belong" is how he described the shift in strategy, in a May 2005 "First Person" article in  The Harvard Business Review. At the time the new strategy was formulated, the company was split into four very distinct strategic business units; that all enjoyed a great deal of autonomy. In this special Leadership Edition of Total Picture Radio, we discuss with Johnna Torsone, SVP and Chief Human Resource Officer of Pitney Bowes, the difficult task of realigning a global organization to a new strategic vision, which includes breaking down silos and implementing drastic change.

About Johnna Torsone
Johnna Torsone joined Pitney Bowes in 1990 as director of corporate employee relations and labor-relations counsel. In that position, she played a key role in crafting the company’s strategic diversity process as well as in setting standards for how employees are treated during restructuring and transitions. In 1992 she assumed the additional role of executive director for human resources planning, development and training, and employee relations, with a focus on senior-management succession and selection. In 1993 she became chief human resources officer, with overall responsibility at that time for succession management, benefits planning and administration, diversity, executive compensation, employee relations, and employment law. Over time, her role has developed into that of a senior human resources strategist, and she now functions as part of the senior management leadership team. Her focus is on key HR issues driving growth and profitability, such as talent, employee engagement, organizational effectiveness and total rewards, as well as on leadership of the human resources organization worldwide.
