Boom Boom Boom Bomb

I really thought Jeff Taylor had a great idea when he launched Eons last year. Guess I wasn't alone. Almost every week, an new "Boomer" site joins the party.
Since the launch of Eons in July, 2006, lots of folks have figured out that the 78 million baby boomers here in the US control about two-thirds of the wealth. And, other than marketing Viagra, Cialias, and some new prostate reducing drug so 60 year old men don't need to make a 50 yard dash to the nearest urinal - most TV has left this increasingly wealthy market (10,000 people a day in the US turn 50), to AARP and a handful of magazines... And, of course, Jeff Taylor and Eons, with over 350,000 members, a custom-built search engine called cRANKy, Eons Longevity Calculator and many other features and tools designed for those 50+.

And now we take you to the newbie 'Net-rush to boomer-social networking sites. To quote Dick Stroud, author of The 50-Plus Market, "Friday, must be about time for another social networking web site. Yup, here we go BOOMJ.com." On his blog, Dick also mentions past50.net "an online help for the over fifties" - actually, an ugly link-farm.

Investors know Boomers can surf the 'Net and Talk on the Phone at the same Time!

Then there's boomertowne.com - which launched last week, running ads on The Weather Channel - which are far more interesting than their web site. Of course, someone has registered boomertown.com (minus the e), and the (un)remarkable drumtable.com, with the title "Drum Up your life story." Well, guess what? the boomers are flocking to - YouTube. "Nearly a quarter of all online video viewers are 45+, according to research from Arbitron/Edison Media Research," as sited on Dick Stroud's Blog.
