A Sneak-Preview Podcast with Andrew Parker, Union Square Ventures
Andrew Parker
This is Peter Clayton for Total Picture Radio. I'm the one that is Clueless in Connecticut. My guest, Andrew Parker, is an analyst at Union Square Ventures, hired from a blog-bake-off job posting. But more on that next week. Andrew has a BS degree from Stanford University in Symbolic Systems, which, he explains, is a "hybrid of Computer Science and Cognitive Psychology." Up until I had this conversation with Andrew, I thought I was pretty tech savvy. I get to interview really smart techie people, like Reid Hoffman (who started LinkedIn), Shally Steckerl, (who, in about two minutes, could find your mother on Google), Gautam Godhwani, Paul Forster, Dion Lim, Jason Alba... the list is very long. I was able to sync my Blackberry to the built-in BlueTooth in my Prius, and use the on-board navigation system without opening the 500+ page instruction manual - even once!
Andrew graduated in 2005, and is what our friend at Deloitte, Stan Smith, calls "Technology Native." Andrew and his peers grew up wired. I grew up thinking the 8 Track cassette player in my brother's Camero was really cool.
In this two minute clip, Andrew describes why USV just made an investment in Twitter. Question: If you're over 45 years old, do you know what he's talking about? (If your over 35 do you know what he's talking about?). Be sure to return to Total Picture Radio next week for the complete, in-depth interview with Andrew.
