Fridays Links: How to Talk (or Not Talk) About Salary, and Other Interviewing Pointers - Marci Alboher
![]() Marci Alboher This week Marci called me, "love your newsletter!" -- "You do?" was my very pleasantly surprised -- okay -- shocked -- response. (Those of you who have registered on Total Picture Radio, know I've recently sent out several newsletters). Marci was working on the blog post in the Lede above, when my newsletter hit her e-mail. Which got her on the phone calling me, asking if I had any interviews she could listen to on her topic. I recommended the podcast with Erika Andersen, whom I'd interviewed recently about her terrific book, Growing Great Employees. Erika's book has numerous excellent "scenario based" interview examples for recruiters, interviewing potential candidates. I thought that would be an interesting twist to her article. So did she, linking to the interview in her blog post. As you can imagine, Marci made my day! I was questioning if the time and effort I'd spent working on the newsletters was worth it. Had Marci not received my newsletter, I doubt she would have thought to call me. Marci made Erika's day too. She's smart enough to have a Google alert set-up for her name, (along with the good fortune to have a unique name), and by the time I contacted her, she was well aware of the article. Moral of the story: Newsletters keep your name in front of your target audience. Timing is everything; but you gotta show up! |
