The Boomer, Gen X War

As played out on network television.

The fiasco on NBC Late Night has brought to the surface one battle going on in most businesses and corporations, and perfectly played out in this clip between Jay Leno and Jimmy Kimmel. Gen X'ers want Baby Boomers to leave! Retire! Go away!

In numerous interviews we've conducted here on TotalPicture Radio with experts in cross generational attitudes in the workplace, this fact keeps presenting itself, and it's only going to get worse. Gen X is over it. They've been waiting patiently, but their patience has run out. Have a listen to our podcast with Tammy Erickson on this topic.

Baby boomers remain in the workplace out of economic necessity, having watched their retirement accounts evaporate, their home value plummet, and other investments head in the same direction. Most boomers are not as fortunate as Jay Leno, to whom Jimmy Kimmel made this remark: "Jay, Conan and I have kids... all you have are cars... we have lives to lead here, you have 800 million dollars, for God sake, leave our shows alone!" The anger and hostility is palpable. Leno? He's a "good soldier." Taking one for the company. Being loyal to his network. Being... a baby boomer.
