Kevin Ochsner - Stay Cool Under Pressure![]() Kevin Ochsner, Ph.D. Are you living in fear of losing your job? (or finding a new one?) Do you feel like you're never going to be able to retire because your 401k has imploded, along with the rest of the economy? If so, take a deep breath and hit the play button. Our guest, Kevin Ochsner, Ph.D., has some insights and great perspective to share in this podcast with Peter Clayton, recorded at the North American NeuroLeadership Summit. Total Picture Radio's special conference leadership series is sponsored by Deloitte. In an article titled The Science of Managing Fears on Donny Deutsch's Big Idea Blog, Kevin Ochsner, our guest today on Total Picture Radio wrote; "During times of stress and difficulty whether economic or personal it is easy to feel afraid, uncertain and just plain overwhelmed. Making choices about your future from a place of strong emotion whether its fear, anxiety or panic may not result is the best solutions. To help cope with such trying times it is useful to know first what your emotional response is what is it telling you and why and second, what you can do to bring yourself back to an even keel." Kevin Ochsner is Assistant Professor of Psychology at Columbia University. Kevin's research interests include the psychological and neural processes involved in emotion, pain, self-regulation, self perception, and person perception. All of his work employs a social cognitive neuroscience approach that seeks to integrate the theories and methods of social psychology on the one hand, and cognitive neuroscience on the other.
