The Leadership Software Extraordinaire? Passion.![]() Omar Khan We're serving up another perfectly themed July 4th Weekend program here on Total Picture Radio. And this has no calories, and won't give you heartburn. Welcome to a Leadership edition of Total Picture Radio with Peter Clayton. Omar Khan has lived in Pakistan, Germany, the US, UK, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, the Netherlands, Japan, Dubai, Singapore and Sri Lanka. His father was an Ambassador for Pakistan, and he was educated both at Oxford University and then Stanford Law School. He was one of the early pioneers of Transformational Learning in the US and worked with some of the original research team that developed Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP). He founded Sensei International, which focuses on improving the quality of business through leadership. The company helps senior leaders boost performance and profits through emotional engagement with each other and their work. Omar's latest book is titled Liberating Passion, How the worlds best Global Leaders Produce Winning Results, published by John Wiley & Sons. Omar calls passion the "leadership software extraordinaire."
From the Inside Flap of Liberating Passion This missing link is the source of leadership energy, adaptation and perseverance. That missing link? Passion. If you know the way forward, passion will amplify your energy, your commitment, your imagination. If you don't know how to proceed, it is passion that will drive you to find a wayto consult others, to prototype, to take risks, to be relentless in constructive ways. Passion lets us know our people have the energy and inner commitment necessary to translate potential into results. By passion we mean the voluntary will to engage completely; the inner energy, drive AND desire to deliver, to achieve, and to win. It's innate within us. No one needs a seminar to learn how to be passionate about a favorite sports team, restaurant or shop. So the question is not how you build passion. The real problem is to understand how we kill it, especially at work. Companies have become exceptional passion killers. And that is painfully ironic. Passionate people are hired in most leading companies (that's part of what gets them hired). Within three months, the passion has often been sucked out of them. Internationally known consultant Omar Khan and business writer Paul B. Brown not only explain why that is the case and how to eliminate passion killers inside your organization, but they lay out in step-by-step fashion what you have to do to reignite the passion inside of every one of your employees. As they prove, there is no better source of competitive advantage. About Omar Khan Omar was one of the early pioneers of Transformational Learning in the US and worked with some of the original research team that developed Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP). Omar founded Sensei International, which focuses on improving the quality of business through leadership. Because there are always people able to produce cheaper, more efficiently, with better scale, we're having to find the imagination edge, the value-added edge. Because learning experinces are in such abundance here in the US, we almost treat learniing experiences like doughnuts, as a series of sugar highs we can get. Omar's vision is to make leadership 'possibility' REAL. Sensei operates in the Americas, the UK, Asia Pacific, South Asia and the Middle East. Sensei's clients include 3M, Motorola, Unilever, Microsoft, The Ritz-Carlton, Singapore Airlines, Standard Chartered Bank, Johnson&Johnson, KLM, Nestle, BusinessWeek, American Express and many others. Omar was rated by the Young President's Organization (YPO) as an 'All Star', their highest rating. He has shared the stage at international symposia with former President Bush, former PM John Major, former Aussie PM Bob Hawke, WTO Secretary General Dr. Supachai, and many others.
