Note to the C Suite: Want to Retain Your Best Employees? Employer Branding Needs to be More Than an Annual Employee Picnic If you're a fan of the US version of popular TV show The Office, you may have seen the "Company Picnic" episode. Michael Scott and former boss and girlfriend Jan Levinson decide to entertain employees and their families at the annual company picnic with a skit, reprising the "history" of Dunder Mifflin. Combining limited facts with considerable rumor and conjecture, (including a founder's suicide and the yet-to-be-announced closing of a branch), Michael and Jan's ad hoc skit is painfully funny. (If you've seen even one episode of The Office you know what I mean by painfully funny).
What's not funny are the number of real organizations without a well defined employer brand: An open invitation to rumor, conjecture, and hearsay. An open invitation to a Michael Scott skit.
Welcome to an Inside Recruiting Channel podcast on TotalPicture Radio with Peter Clayton reporting. Joining us to discuss employer branding, its impact, and importance is Anne Gilmore, Vice President of Strategic Branding at gkBRAND, a global strategic branding consultancy specializing in brand strategy and brand architecture, visual brand identity systems, product and company naming, and interactive design.
