An Interview with Scott Pitasky, Corporate Vice President, Talent & Organizational Capability at Microsoft."There's no question if you look out the next 12 to 18 months, we will hire thousands of people to Microsoft around the world." ![]() Scott Pitasky As corporate vice president for Microsoft's Human Resources Talent & Organization Capability group, Scott Pitasky is responsible for global staffing, talent management, development, organization capability and aspects of the companys learning agenda. This broad role includes all efforts to establish Microsoft's employment brand, acquire talent anywhere in the world, and once acquired manage and develop people to achieve their fullest potential. This work spans the employee and manager population up to and including work with the senior leadership team and Board of Directors. Pitasky came to Microsoft in August 2001, and has served as director, senior director and general manager of MSN, the Server & Tools group and Global Staffing, respectively. Before joining Microsoft, Pitasky served as vice president and senior director of Human Resources at Amazon.com in Seattle, where he was responsible for global HR and staffing, managing a team of more than 100 professionals. During his tenure, the company grew from 1,000 to 8,000 employees, launched operations in multiple countries, entered into several partnerships and acquisitions, implemented broad-based option re-pricing, withstood union organizing attempts and went through first ever corporate layoffs. Prior to Amazon.com, Pitasky was a principal at iQuantic, Inc., a San Francisco-based HR consulting firm focused on compensation and organizational development for technology companies. Prior to iQuantic, Pitasky was director of human resources for AlliedSignal Inc. (now Honeywell), where he worked as part of a global manufacturing organization to learn and deploy a Six Sigma approach to talent and operational challenges. The AlliedSignal approach was patterned after the GE HR model for leadership development and talent management. After completing his Bachelor of Science in Engineering in finance and management from The Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania, he began his career as an investment banker with Citicorp and moved on to work as a strategy consultant for Corporate Decisions, Inc., in Boston, Mass. Pitasky is a frequent keynote speaker at HR industry events and sits on the Michigan State University Advisory Board as well as the Corporate Leadership Council's Talent Management Council. He is also a member of the University of Southern California's Center for Effective Organizations.
