The American Management Association International is a world leader in talent development, advancing the skills of individuals to drive business success. If you are an aspiring - or current manager and leader this Podcast is for you. Our topic: A new book published by the AMA and edited by Mr. Reilly titled AMA Business Boot Camp -- Management and Leadership Fundamentals That Will See You Successfully Through your Career. TotalPicture Radio's producer/host Peter Clayton had the opportunity to work with Ed and the AMA several years ago on a series of leadership webinairs. We are delighted to have him back on TPR.

From strategic thinking to navigating office politics, from project management to developing power and influence, today's managers need a finely-tuned arsenal of high level skills in order to succeed. The AMA Business Boot Camp presents the knowledge and tools necessary to build careers and help businesses thrive in a world of constant change.

In our exclusive Leadership Channel interview, Reilly discusses with Clayton the evolving role of the manager as well as the trends that will shape the workplace in the coming year and beyond...

Managers as Leaders. As organizations continue to flatten, the role of the manager is undergoing a dramatic redefinition. Previously expected to execute tasks, plans, decisions, and policies created at the top, operational managers are now being asked to participate in the planning process and to assume leadership qualities.

Project Management For All. Previously, project management was a skill that only a select few needed, but now all managers and senior staff need to have these skills as they will be overseeing more projects than ever before.

Shift Toward A Strategic Mindset. Managers and employees at all levels will be encouraged to suggest, develop, and implement strategies for reducing costs, improving customer service levels, and increasing organizational effectiveness.

Coping With Stress. Constant change means that stress levels at work will increase dramatically. Everyone will need to develop the skills necessary to cope with stress, while focusing on getting the job done.
