In his new book, Peter Weddle has created a world to describe the fact and fantasy to describe the global disruption that is about to occur -- and what to do about it.

Peter Weddle, CEO TAtech TotalPicture interviewPeter Weddle

One of the first recruiting and TA Technology experts I met when I started this podcast way back in 2005 - yes that's 2005 - was my guest today, Peter Weddle, the founder and CEO of TAtech. And I can tell you hardly anyone knew what a podcast was in 2005. But thanks to the financial support from Deloitte I was able to launch what is now called the TotalPicture Podcast. And thanks to the cachet of Deloitte I was able to get a press pass to a Recruiting Trends conference at the Jacob Javits Center in New York City. That's where I first met Peter, along with many other thought leaders in the Talent Acquistion world like Jeff Taylor who was the president and founder of Monster. In 2005 Monster was a monster job board.

Quick cut to this year and I was fortunate to have worked with Peter and the TAtech team in New Orleans filming their Fall Congress and World Job Board Forum. I've had a lot of fun editing videos from TAtech NOLA.

I asked Peter to come on to the show to discuss his new book, Circa 2118 What Humans Will Do When Machines Take Over.

First, a little background. As I mentioned, Peter Weddle is the CEO of TAtech: The Association for Talent Acquisition Solutions, the trade organization for the global talent acquisition technology industry. He is the author or editor of over two dozen books and has been a columnist for National Business Employment Weekly and the interactive edition of The Wall Street Journal. He is a graduate of the United States Military Academy at West Point and holds advanced degrees from the Bread Loaf School of English at Middlebury College and the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University.

If you've listened to this show you know we spend a lot of time discussing AI - artificial intelligence - especially how it relates to talent acquisition and HR. According to Peter, "All of the debate about what is and isn't AI and whether today's chatbots and other machine learning-based systems are truly intelligent misses the point. The issue isn't if this technology will make machines smart (and eventually smarter than humans) but when."
