TALKING POINTS

Kris, thanks for joining me on TotalPicture.. Let's get into the wayback machine for a minute. Tell us about your background, and how you chose to focus on SEO and create a super successful business.

I'm curious, You have a podcast link on your site ardorseo.com - dude you've been on about 100 shows (I might be exaggerating a little bit but not a lot). It's obvious you've made a concerted effort to do so. You're based in Australia and you reached out to me. Obviously, something is working. Can you explain why podcasters such as myself are part of your business strategy?

Explain what SEO is and what SEM is and what is the difference.

Can you explain for non-techies The fundamentals of how Google works, the Page Rank algorithm

How to find the best keywords for your website

Kris and I have been emailing back and forth. He sent me this: Just a quick look at search volume, the two keywords Amazon Job, USA Job have almost 1,000,000 monthly searches!

That's a million searches! From just two keywords! That shows the important of SEO for recruiters. If you can get in front of the where people are actively searching for job, you'll get the most CVs - so unpack this for us.

I Googled Consulting Jobs Professional Services Los Angeles. - (Which generated, by the way, over a half million results) The first page: Glassdoor, Indeed, LinkedIn, CareerBuilder, and Michael Page. I would guess that PWC, Deloitte, or EY would like their jobs on the first page of that search.

Then I Googled electrical engineering jobs Austin Tx 1,300,000 results. And a company called MET Labs had 2 of the top 3 listings. Everything else was Glassdoor, Indeed, LinkedIn - a niche job board, even simply hired which died a couple of years a go - and one Monster ad. So MET is doing something right.

To flip the switch for a minute. Employers looking for recruitment services. I Googled Electrical Engineering recruiter, Austin over 1.5 M results, and the top one? CSI Executive Search. And I would bet $50 they hired an SEO expert like yourself to get that ranking.

We all know how important mobile has become. Is it true Google ranks sites higher that are mobile optimized?

Every so often I'll hear terms like Penguin, Panda, Hummingbird, Pidgin, and all the other friendly names for Google's potentially devastating penalties How do you end up in the penalty box? What are the different penalties? How do you recover from penalties? There are some HR Tech vendors that guarantee you job ad will appear on every major and minor job board. But I've heard that strategy of posting the exact same thing over and over on 100's of sites can actually put you in Google's penalty box. True?

Kris, How do you attract and hire technical staff? Which I would imagine, like here in the US is super hard to find.
