Welcome to a special Talent Acquisition channel podcast on TotalPicture Radio this is Peter Clayton reporting from the HCI strategic talent acquisition conference in New York City. Joining us today is Susan Van Klink, vice president of product sales and strategies, SuccessFactors.

The impact of the global recession forced organizations to change the way they conducted business. Cutbacks in spending, and aversion to risk, businesses becoming more conservative. As we are coming out of the recession, talent acquisition is still operating under a model of 50 years ago -- Reactively, responding when approached by a business leader with a request for hires.

According to Van Klink, "We need to shed this model, now is the time to be proactive. It's our belief that in order to do this successfully we need to focus on three major areas."

Connectivity–talent pipelines, engagement and hiring are all rapidly being managed online and via social networks. Our behaviors and philosophies need to change in order to stay current with these trends and remain competitive.

Strategy if were going to be more strategic, we have to create a plan. In order for this to happen, talent acquisition needs to be involved in, if not derived for workforce planning,.

Competency–talent acquisition has to change, but how? What skill sets are needed, what development needs to happen, how do you insent this change?
