Behind the Scenes at SHRM 2014 Orlando - Life as a SHRM Annual Volunteer

A conversation with the co-chair of the 2014 SHRM Host Committee, Aimee Brun

Senior Manager Talent Acquisitions at Hilton Grand Vacations -TotalPicture Radio interviewAimee Brun

Thank you for joining us today for a special Talent Acquisition channel podcast here on TotalPicture Radio, brought to you by Riviera Advisors, Strategic Talent Management Advisory Services...This is Peter Clayton reporting.

Our guest today is is Aimee Brun, Senior Manager Talent Acquisitions at Hilton Grand Vacations. Aimee served as volunteer co-chair of The 2014 SHRM Annual Conference in Orlando...

Questions Peter Clayton asks Aimee Brun in this Interview:

  • You're very active with your local SHRM Chapter and played an extremely important role as the co-chair of the conference. Please share your experiences with us.
  • Did you have an opportunity to attend any of the sessions?
  • What were some of the conference highlights for you?
  • What was the feedback from some of the other volunteers?
  • The theme of this year's conference is "transform." From your perspective, what do you think has been most transformational in HR and recruiting over the past couple of years?
  • Were there any predominant themes or topics attendees were talking about related to HR?
  • You've spent about 7 years working in various staffing and recruiting roles at Hilton. What is unique about recruiting for the hospitality industry?
  • As anyone whose travelled to Florida knows the time-share hospitality industry is highly competitive. How do you go about finding and training sales associates -- many of whom, from my understanding - have no prior experience?
  • Tell us about your retention strategy -- like I said, this is highly competitive. It's also high pressure -- produce or leave sales environment, is it not?
  • So I'm sure you've done a lot of research to identify personality types that are most likely to succeed as as sales associate. What's the profile? How does a recruiter know if they have a "winner or a loser" since, as I said, many candidates have no prior experience in this industry.
  • Currently, you oversee the daily operations of the recruitment office and recruiters for the Orlando Hilton Grand Vacations Call Centers. Responsibilities include all pre-hire processing, maintaining recruiting budget, and collaboration with other area hotels and departments. What are some of the unique challenges you face recruiting for call centers?
  • Call centers traditionally have a very high churn rate. What have you done at Hilton Grand Vacations to address this issue?
  • I noticed on your LinkedIn profile that you've had experience rolling out applicant tracking systems -- what advice can you share with us based on that experience?
  • What will you bring back and share with your staff regarding SHRM14?
  • What advice would you give those considering a recruiting or HR career in the hospitality industry? (Is there a personality type that fits well with the culture?)
  • Any final thoughts regarding this year's conference you'd like to share? Advice for your colleagues in Las Vegas volunteering for next year's Event?
